How to Generate a Yahoo App Password

Yahoo Mail requires an app password instead of your normal password.

Third-party email apps (like our IMAP migration tools) that do not use the official Yahoo sign-in page require a special one-time password called an App Password. This is necessary if you have two-step verification enabled, or Yahoo has blocked less secure sign-ins.

An App Password is a randomly generated code that allows external apps to access your Yahoo account securely — without your main password.

🔧 Steps: How to Generate a Yahoo App Password

  1. Go to the official Yahoo Account Security page:
  2. Sign in with your Yahoo email and password
  3. Click “Generate app password” or “Generate and manage app passwords”
  4. Click “Get Started”
  5. Enter a name for the app (e.g. syncmail.online)
  6. Click “Generate password”
  7. Yahoo will show you a one-time 16-character password
    Copy this code
  8. Use this password (not your normal one) when you use our IMAP sync tool.

How to Delete an App Password

  1. Visit the same page: Yahoo Account Security
  2. Click “Generate and manage app passwords”
  3. Click “Delete” next to the app you want to revoke
  4. Confirm by clicking “Delete”
